This is gonna be one short article about my story of falling into using HB pencils. There are something unexplainable that artists experience. One, it brings happiness, since it's creative and doesn't need words to explain one's imagination. And secondly, artists are unsatisfiable, they never consider their work complete. I am an amateur artist, never created anything extraordinary, even I don't get satisfied with my work but love capturing things on paper. If I see something beautiful, I try drawing it. There was this one time I got really happy with my art.
I like pencil sketching, but as said earlier, being an amateur, so I just used normal pencils. During my first year in college, we were asked to bring 4B pencils for Engineering Drawing. I bought Staedtler HB pencils in Amazon, which contained HB range from HB to 8B. I have seen artists talk about HB pencils but was never really convinced on using it. In the Staedtler pack, there is a drawing of mechanical instruments which was really good. I wanted to try drawing it and I, for the first time, used HB pencils. I copied the strokes to the best of my skills and it resulted in this:

Although it's not perfect, it gave me satisfaction. I understood the use of HB pencils and why artists are hyped over it. The 2B resulted in perfect lines, thickness provided by 6B and 8B gave an embossing effect, and the light tone of the HB pencils, altogether resulted in me accomplishing this. Understanding the strokes and shades, along with the use of HB pencils will make any art beautiful. Art is beautiful but this little change takes our art to a whole new level.
Additional Information...
HB stands for Hard and Black. The Hard leads offer light lines and are perfect for technical drawing. The Black leads or Soft leads provide darker tones. HB is the normally used scale for graphite pencils. The darkness increases with the grades: HB < 2B < 4B < 6B < 8B.
I have been trying new stuff lately, will share them sooner. In the meantime, share your experience of using HB pencils.
